Sockeye Catch
How to Play
Controls
Touch / Mouse: Tap and drag to steer your boat.
Keyboard: Use arrow keys to nudge left, right, up, or down.
Goal
Catch as many sockeye salmon as you can while dodging obstacles. The more fish you catch and the longer you survive, the higher your score.
Fish Types
Sockeye Salmon
Worth 50 pts each. Your bread and butter — catch as many as you can!
Golden Salmon
Rare! Worth 250 pts. Swims faster than normal fish, so be quick.
Pufferfish
Avoid it! Costs you 10 fish, breaks your combo, and removes active power-ups. If you have fewer than 10 fish, it drops you to zero — one more obstacle hit and it's game over. Starts appearing after 18 seconds.
Lives & Health
Your lives are tied to your fish count — every 20 fish = 1 life (❤️). Hitting an obstacle costs 20 fish (one life). If you have fewer than 20 fish when you crash, it's Game Over.
Obstacles
🪵 Logs — Wide and common. Most frequent hazard.
🪨 Rocks — Smaller but taller. Watch for them.
🧊 Ice — Mid-sized blocks drifting downstream.
After a crash, game speed briefly resets to give you a breather.
Power-Ups
Special glowing fish that appear after 10 seconds of gameplay.
Magnet
Pulls nearby fish toward your boat for 5 seconds. Won't attract pufferfish.
Shield
Absorbs one obstacle hit without losing any fish. Stays active until used.
Combo System
Catch fish rapidly (within 1.5 seconds of each other) to build a combo multiplier up to 5x! Each fish caught earns its base points multiplied by your current combo. Crashing into obstacles or catching a pufferfish resets your combo.
Scoring
Fish points: Base value × combo multiplier
Time bonus: The longer you survive and the faster the river flows, the more bonus points you earn
Difficulty
The river speeds up and obstacles appear more frequently as time passes. The game starts gentle with a 2.5-second safe window — use it to grab your first fish!
Pro Tip
High risk, high reward! Fish spawn more densely toward the top of the screen, but that's also where obstacles appear. Moving your boat higher gives you less time to react to incoming hazards. Stay low to play it safe, or push upstream for bigger hauls — the choice is yours.
